Anciently the Gaelic term "clann" refers, in a poetically Celtic fashion, to the children of the family.

Many modern Scottish Clan organizations honor the traditions of the Highland Clans in providing a sense of shared family identity for people of Scottish descent worldwide.  Behind the events of fellowship, the discovery of "long lost cousins", the informative publications, websites, etc. are hardworking engines driving a clan organization and its activities through passionate volunteers devoting time and energy for the good of the clan family.

An organized and stable structure that guides the individual roles of its members is necessary for the growth and success of any group.  The current Chief of Clan MacTavish, as recognized head of this Honourable Clan, has developed an organizational chart to offer a visual demonstration of the structure supporting the emerging organization.  This worldwide organization, like most families, has several branches that operate with independance yet shared purpose in celebration of their collective heritage.
